J.M. Smucker is a packaged food company that primarily sells through the US retail channel (75% of fiscal 2026 revenue came through its retail pet foods, coffee, and frozen handheld/spreads segments), with the remaining share consisting of sweet baked snacks (through the Hostess acquisition), away from home, and international (primarily Canada). Retail coffee is its largest category (37% of sales) with brands Folgers, Dunkin', and Cafe Bustelo. Pet foods (18% of sales) holds leading brands like Milk-Bone and Meow Mix. Of its remaining, approximately 20% comes from frozen handhelds and spreads, through brands Jif, Smucker's, and Uncrustables. The company acquired Hostess Brands in fiscal 2024 to boost its snack and convenience store presence.

Jefferies maintained its Hold rating on Keurig Dr Pepper and Buy rating on J.M. Smucker as arabica coffee prices have climbed roughly 30% since June, reversing expectations that lower coffee costs would provide a tailwind for the sector during the second half of 2026. Analyst Scott Marks said coffee prices have accelerated sharply over the past two months, creating a potential cost headwind for coffee companies and potentially putting pressure on margins into the first half of 2027. The move is particularly notable because companies entered the second half of the year expecting a more favorable raw-material environment. Supply risks have also increased after an earthquake in Colombia disrupted a major road used to transport a significant portion of the country’s coffee exports, adding uncertainty to an already tightening market. Jefferies therefore sees higher coffee prices as a growing risk to earnings expectations for both companies. $KDP $SJM

View on StockTwits ↗$JVA Light volume today. $SJM and some other food stocks having a good day. Maybe a rotation out of some overly highly priced high tech stocks into more consumer staples.
View on StockTwits ↗@richardred i still think $SJM will make a run at JVA! An easy way to bulk your top line up for mere pcoket change
View on StockTwits ↗$JVA $SJM Has been picking up steam in anticipation of good earnings. The results of its coffee unit should send a good signal here.

View on StockTwits ↗@contrarianspeculator $JVA I just bought more bricks from ShopRite for $4.49 each. Cafe Busteo $SJM had the dominant shelf space and was priced $4.99, Pylon was $7.99. Hard to recon $JVA is in the top ten " lowest Market Cap" sort in packaged foods industry on finviz, while it is 12th on the list for p/e (low to high sort). 10 of those stocks are all +$B in market cap. Go figure?
View on StockTwits ↗$SJM action today is mostly about a big $400k batch of same-day in-the-money calls Stock's down nearly 2% with no news driving it Looks more like intraday tactics than a solid directional play All 801 contracts are today's 0DTE $110 calls Heavy focus on this single strike and expiry means it's just about today's close, not a long-term bullish signal SJM's down around 1.97% today and only up about 0.87% over 5 days No put flow and no fresh catalysts This divergence suggests more hedging or short-term trading Not much edge here for new positions
View on StockTwits ↗$SBUX Getting close to a breakout. Reports earnings Aug 4. Let's talk about their core product: coffee. Coffee futures are telling a compelling story on the monthly chart. A cup-and-handle formation suggests a strong bullish trend into the rest of the year and beyond. Some companies could benefit from this price rise, assuming their fundamentals are robust: $KDP: significant coffee portfolio (pods, Green Mountain, etc.) $SJM: owns major packaged brands like Folgers $BROS: fast-growing drive-through coffee chain $BRCC: specialty/roasted coffee And $SBUX. It has its own enterprise growth story and reports earnings on Aug 4. The stock is forming an ascending triangle. If validated, it could support multi-month growth from here into Q4 2026. As an option seller, this sets up a solid premium-selling opportunity ahead of earnings. I'm planning to open a position and exit for profit just before the report.
