View on StockTwits ↗A federal judge in Florida delayed ruling on The New York Times’ request to dismiss President Donald Trump’s $15 billion defamation lawsuit and instead granted Trump permission to amend his complaint. Trump has until August 27 to file a revised version, giving his legal team another opportunity to strengthen the case. The lawsuit alleges that Trump’s reputation was damaged by the 2024 book Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father's Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success and several New York Times articles published ahead of the 2024 election. Trump argues the coverage falsely portrayed his business and political record, while the Times maintains the complaint fails to show that the disputed statements were false or published with actual malice. The New York Times said the ruling does not validate Trump’s allegations and merely allows him another chance to present a legally sufficient complaint. $NYT
