LPL Financial is the largest US independent broker-dealer, with more than 32,000 financial advisors affiliated with its platform and roughly 11 million customer accounts at the end of 2025. The firm earns the bulk of its profit from interest income earned on client cash balances and from advisory fees and commissions tied to the $2.4 trillion in assets under management or advisory on its platform at year-end 2025. LPL specializes in providing turnkey wealth management services for affiliated independent advisors, but maintains a diverse array of affiliation modalities, running the gamut from more traditional employee models to a pure RIA custody approach. It earns tuck-in revenue from recordkeeping fees and the provision of software tools and services to its advisor base.

$LPLA — April's record recruiting pipeline converted: $25B in recruited assets Q2, strongest quarter in nearly two years excluding large institutional wins, and the pipeline expanded further despite the pull-through. Core G&A came in at $519M, below its own guided range for the second consecutive quarter; full-year outlook cut again to $2.140B–$2.165B. Record adjusted EPS $5.84. Commonwealth retention steady in the mid-80s, Q4 onboard on track, EBITDA run rate estimate up to $435M. On cash sweep pricing: same language as April — work underway, no timeline, no milestones offered when directly asked. One mechanical move did happen: ICA tiering methodology shifted from AUM-based to cash-balance-based, adding ~10 bps to Q3 yield and 20 bps on a full run-rate basis — introduced without reference to the broader pricing review. #TheGapReport

View on StockTwits ↗The next 10 days could be important: • July 21-24: multiple earnings reports • July 29: Fed decision • July 30: Q2 GDP data Two names on the list are already in my portfolio, including my largest position, $NOW, which reports on July 22. For $LPLA, the key factor is the cash spread business. A hold or rate hike from the Fed could support margins, while the main risk is cash moving into money market funds. The timing matters: Schwab and Interactive Brokers report before LPL, giving investors an early look at whether client cash is leaving broker platforms. For $NOW, my base case is close to the broker view. The stock trades near $104 after a major decline as investors worry AI agents could reduce demand for enterprise software. The key metric to watch is cRPO, not just revenue growth. A slowdown below expectations could turn AI concerns from speculation into measurable data. Earnings season will likely decide the next move.

View on StockTwits ↗$LPLA this ran hard, up 14%+ in the last month. Clearly the sell off on AI fears to their financial advisor platform was overblown. But needs to get back above $344 with a weekly close to show this is not just a mean reversion move.
