Typically, this fund allocates a minimum of 80% of its assets or generates at least 80% of its income from municipal securities that are exempt from standard federal income tax. However, these holdings may still expose investors to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), with no upper limit on such investments. Furthermore, a significant portion—at least 50% of its portfolio—is dedicated to debt securities rated BBB+ or lower (or Baa1 or lower by Moody's equivalent), or to unrated securities that the investment adviser determines to be of comparable quality.
