Peabody Energy Corp is a producer of metallurgical and thermal coal. It also markets and brokers coal, both as principal and agent, and trades coal and freight-related contracts. The company operates in the following segment: Seaborne Thermal, Seaborne Metallurgical, Powder River Basin, Other U.S. Thermal and Corporate and Other. The Seaborne Thermal segment generates the majority of the revenue for the company. A substantial part of its overall revenue is generated from its customers in the United States, and rest from Japan, China, Australia, Taiwan, and other regions.

$BTU still looks like a Centurion execution story to me. On Aug. 11, Peabody said the shield-racking issue had been fully addressed and the mine was ramping toward targeted production. Management still targets 2.0–2.5 million tons of Centurion sales for 2026, including 0.5–0.7 million tons in Q3. That matters because Q2 was hurt by lower volumes and elevated start-up costs. The next real test is whether the Q3 ramp shows up in actual shipments and costs. The $0.075 quarterly dividend is due to be paid Sept. 3. I also watch $CNR as a useful read-through for coal-sector sentiment. Not financial advice. Do your own research.

I haven’t found a fresh Peabody release or SEC filing today that clearly explains the move, so Centurion remains the key thing I’m watching. On August 11, Peabody said the main longwall alignment issues had been addressed and reiterated Q3 Centurion sales of 500,000 to 700,000 tons. The next meaningful signal is execution: does production actually reach the targeted ramp-up through August and September? Until we get confirmation, I’d be careful about extrapolating the recent share-price momentum. Not financial advice. Do your own research.
