August is National Golf Month. For investors, the numbers behind the game may be as interesting as the leaderboard. A record 48.1 million Americans played golf in 2025, including 29.1 million on the course and another 19 million exclusively through ranges, simulators and golf entertainment venues. U.S. golfers also played more than 500 million rounds for the sixth consecutive year, while the sport now generates roughly $102 billion in direct annual economic activity. That spending reaches far beyond greens fees: equipment, apparel, technology, travel, media, simulators and entertainment are all part of the golf economy. And there are public companies behind it, including Titleist and FootJoy owner Acushnet Holdings ($GOLF), Callaway Golf ($CALY), Nike ($NKE), and Dick’s Sporting Goods ( $DKS ). Golf may be a game. It is also a very big business.
